Kwara United have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko at the MKO Sports Arena, Abeokuta, on Sunday.
SPORTSDAILYFEEDS reports that the Harmony Boys lost the preliminary round tie 5-3 on aggregate despite dominating large parts of the match. However, their poor finishing in front of goal cost them dearly.
Hubert Ayau netted the decisive goal for Asante Kotoko in the 54th minute, pouncing on a loose ball inside the box to hand the Porcupine Warriors the advantage.
Nigeria’s other representative, Abia Warriors, also bowed out of the competition after losing 1-0 to Malian side Djoliba. The Malian club sealed qualification with a 2-1 aggregate victory.
The exits mean Nigeria will have no representative in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup this season.
